Friendly Barks for YOUR ADOPTED DOG
Hi -- your book, Your Adopted Dog,  couldn't have come at a better time for us.  We're going to Fresno this
weekend to visit (and hopefully adopt) two rescue dogs.  They'll be our first pets (at least, my first since
childhood).  My 12-year old daughter has been pet-sitting for many families for a few years, and it's finally her
turn to have her own forever friend.  She's been researching and reading like mad, so we'll be as prepared as
possible.
I had gone to Dolly's Treasures in the Carlmont Shopping Center to buy my daughter a little present to celebrate
her soon-to-be adoption, and that's where I found your book (and the shopkeeper pointed out Dolly's photo and
story in the back).  My daughter and I have been taking turns reading it, and it's by far the best resource we've
found to prepare us for our new adventure (and let me tell you -- she's read a LOT of books by now!).
Here's what we like about it:
great format -- in-depth sections, light sidebars, quotes; very well-balanced (my daughter loves the rescue
stories)
organization -- I appreciate the "what do I do next" way it's laid out -- kind of the chronology of what we'll go
through, in the order we'll experience it
detail -- you've included very specific details that a lot of other books leave out, but are exactly the kind of thing
we need to know.  For example (kind of an odd example to pick, but it stood out in my mind), describing exactly
what happens when the vet performs euthanasia, so the person knows what to expect.
comprehensiveness -- some of the sections I'm glancing over now, but knowing I'll want to refer back to them if
we need them (pet health conditions, for example).  I picture this as the book we reach for again and again once
we get our dogs.
We haven't finished reading it yet, but we're both enjoying (and appreciating) it so much I had to share that with
you.  Please forward this to the co-author as well.
And it's a bonus that you're a local author!  We love to support our local community!  Will you be doing any
author talks soon?
